Alli Sadegiani creator of "Greed"  E-mail

As an inside Animation Mentor's joke, How did you earn the nickname "Toiletman"?

Hahaha! I knew involving Chris in this wouldn't pass by without consequences! :) Well, here's the story.

It's better you hear it from me before anyone else anyway. While at Animation Mentor, most of my Live Qna:s was scheduled very very early in the morning due to the timezone difference. Since I live in a small apartment, those days my previous girlfriend were staying at my place, I had nowhere to go but lock myself inside the toilet in order to not wake her up. I guess the image you get when bringing someone up on a live cam for the first time, sitting on a toilet chair is quite ordinary and makes you wonder if he actually has his pants on or not. :) I can guarantee you this was for educational purpose only and I was fully dressed during all the QNA sessions! :)
The funny thing is tough, one thing people noticed much later, was that both my short film and my dialogue acting shot was taking place in a toilet. Just a coincidence? I want to believe so :)

What is Greed?
Well, I guess greed to me, is one of the weaknesses we as human beings has to deal with on an everyday basis. Both on a large global and small personal level. We want to have  a good job, a nice girlfriend, a new pair of shoes, a new gaming console and a country that is economically stronger than others. I could go on forever and be very philosophical about it. Some thing may apply and some may not, But you get the idea. It is this, this desire, this "ghost" inside us that could give us pleasure but also destroy us, if were are not careful what we ask for.

How could you ever think of this?
From the beginning the story wasn't really about greed. Not on that deep level. It was more about a guy who had to chose between going to a date looking like Hitler or keeping all the money. But during the story sessions and feedback I had with my mentor Chris Derochie and others at school, it became, it became very clear to me that its is this weakness within him, this greed, that made it hard for him to chose between his choices. So I decided to change the direction and instead of just telling another funny little story, trying to pull out something darker and creepier out of it.

What are your major influences?
Once I decided to go with the darker and creepier mood, I instantly came to think of directors and movies that I'm a huge huge fan of. Directors like Tim Burton, David Fincher, Terry Gilliam, Stanley Kubrick, Alfred Hitchcock and movies like Donnie Darko, The machinist, The city of lost children, The army of 12 monkeys and so on.

As for the story, did you have any writers block?
Ooo yes!! There was a period I couldn't get the story to work because of the small complexity of it. The pimples, their meaning and the order and the reason they appear and disappear was a huge problem to solve. But thanks to my mentor, class mates and the bounces we had back and forth it eventually found its own way and loosened up. I guess it came down to really look at the story and try to see what it really came down to. In this case "greed" was the magic word.

What does the mustache represent?
Well, without going in too deep about it, I would say the whole Hitler transformation is a way to try to shine a small light on why terrible things during the history has happened to our world and why people do horrible things. To me, greed is one of the things that could have you stab your best friend in the back just to get that job you so much desire or also, on a bigger scale, start a world conflict.

Is there anything you would like to add?
Nothing more than thanks to everybody who contributed to this film and also that I'm hoping to see animated movies in so much more genres other than we are used to. There are so many stories to tell and so many different ways and angles to tell them. Just because it's animated, it doesn't necessary need to be funny, all the time.
And remember, whatever you are doing, make sure you're having fun!! :)
