Studio in the Spotlight: The Clayman  E-mail

How was The Clayman born?
As a dimensional illustrator who uses clay to create images, in 1999 I decided to register a dot com.

Being a fan of Seinfeld, I had recalled some episodes where Kramer was being called the 'K' man, got me thinking... hmm how about The Clayman.com, I checked and low and behold... the domain was available. Since then however, the identity is evolving into more of a spiritual metaphor towards creating communications which help to inspire, enlighten, educate and entertain.

What is the studio's specialty?
For commercial services, the website has become a global one stop 3D services shop. The Clayman and Associates collectively offer a wide variety of niche 3D services ranging including traditional and CG 3D animation, illustration, larger than life foam sculpture, state of the art 3D laser scanning and CNC reproductions, eye catching lenticular printing and entertaining paper engineering.

As for proprietary content, and as social entrepreneurs we are always developing projects that express social, environmental and political commentary for the quickly growing health and wellness markets.

How many animators work at The Clayman?
The Clayman & Associates are an international network of like minded, established, independent entrepreneurial creatives who collectively review the variety of unsolicited inquiries that the website attracts.  We operate out of our own locations, however, for larger animation projects, we secure appropriate spaces for the duration of the project and work together.

What would you consider to be key for a successful Animation Studio?
Great stories, great talent, an appreciation for creation and collaboration and finally great intellectual properties attorneys, generous investors and animation loving accountants ( do they really exist? ;O)

What are The Clayman's plans for the future?
A favorite quote:
How does one make God laugh?...  Tell her your plans ;O)

We are generally open minded towards projects that come in via the website, but are always developing our own in-house short film and character design properties. Some of these include a growth hormone and steroid junky 'Tough Chicken' series and most recently 'The Green Geezer' an environmentally focused, bored, geriatric baby boomer super hero.

Having recently teamed up with associate stop-motion animation master, Ms.Lisa Jane Gray again after nearly a decade has been a real inspiration. We are currently discussing ideas for a new stop-motion / CG hybrid projects and ideally the formation of a new full service 3D facility in the lower mainland.
